EGEAC is responsible for the management of some of the most emblematic cultural spaces and monuments of the city of Lisbon.

To simplify access to these monuments and museums, EGEAC grouped them into themed packs that help you to program your visit so you can make the most of Lisbon.

Castelo de S. Jorge is a place where you can get to know a little about Lisbon in its Museum, explore the remains of the eleventh century Islamic quarter at the Archaeological Site, take in exceptional views of the city at the Periscope – Ulysses Tower, walk through the gardens and the viewpoint, take a break in the Castle’s Café, join guided tours or other educational activities, or simply allow yourself to be delighted by the music, theatre, dance and soirées based on its patrimony which enliven the days in this remarkable Lisbon Monument. Open every day.

Fado Museum: A long-standing institution in the world of Lisbon’s urban song, the Fado Museum is dedicated to preserving, researching and displaying its archives on Fado heritage via its permanent exhibition on the history of Fado and the Portuguese Guitar. The Museum regularly promotes temporary exhibitions and has its own school, a documentation centre, an auditorium, a gift shop and a restaurant.

Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 10 am to 6pm *

Roman Theatre: The ruins of an ancient Roman theatre built into one of the slopes of São Jorge Castle enable us to see the marks of history on the city, transporting us back to Olisipo at the beginning of the 1st century AD. Abandoned a few centuries later and rediscovered thanks to reconstruction efforts after the 1755 earthquake, it was transformed into a museum, inaugurated in 2001 as the Roman Theatre Museum, and became part of the Museum of Lisbon in 2015. Comprised of two buildings, this “on-site museum” includes an area for long duration exhibitions and an archaeological site.

Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 10 am to 6pm *

Aljube Museum: The space that once housed a political prison during the Estado Novo military dictatorship under António de Oliveira Salazar now pays tribute to resistance and freedom as Museu do Aljube. Located at 42, Rua de Augusto Rosa, this four storey museum contains a gallery of archaeological objects, a space for temporary exhibitions, a permanent exhibition, an auditorium and a cafeteria with a view overlooking the Cathedral of Lisbon and the Tagus River. The museum also offers an educational service (which organises tours for schools) and a documentation centre that contains specialised publications and conducts research relating to the museum’s themes.

Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 6pm *

Santo António: St. Anthony, one of Lisbon’s most beloved saints, fittingly has his museological altar located next to the church to whom he is dedicated, right beside the Cathedral of Lisbon, the city where he was born and where he spent his first 20 years. Previously named Museu Antoniano, opened to the public in June 1962, it was recently renovated, featuring a new amplified and reconfigured exhibition space. Containing an area for long duration exhibitions and a documentation centre, it continues to pay homage to a saint that even Italians claim as one of their own.

Opening Hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 6pm *

Casa dos Bicos: Built between 1521 and 1523, it belonged to the family of Afonso de Albuquerque and was considerably damaged by the earthquake and by the passage of time. Its rehabilitation in 1981 helped restore the building to its original dimensions and revive the splendour of one of Lisbon’s most original façades. The upper floors of the building have housed the Fundação José Saramago since 2008, while the lower floor contains the Archaeological Centre, which is comprised of a long duration exhibition space and an archaeological site.

Opening Hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 6pm *
